Neuromuscular Orthodontics Perth

Your smile is your most personal and valuable asset and can create a lifelong impression instantly.

There are various reasons why orthodontics may be recommended to a patient. In addition to straightening your teeth for a perfect smile, orthodontics also ensures jaw and facial bone structure is aligned correctly, preventing bite problems, which can lead to headaches, neck pain or bruxism (clenching and grinding) of your teeth.

Correctly aligned teeth will significantly contribute to maintaining your oral health and enhance your confidence professionally and socially.

Introducing the new DNA Appliance

Epigenetic Orthodontics is different because instead of using mechanical forces to move teeth, a patented removable Daytime-Nighttime Appliance™ (or DNA appliance™) is worn during the evening and night, and this allows the body to gently correct the positions of the teeth in its own natural way.

With the DNA appliance we are treating the skeletal system to develop and widen the jaw to accommodate the teeth by providing sufficient room for the teeth to fit into a perfect arch.

This appliance also allows development and balancing of facial features.

Since beginning to work with this appliance in 2011, Dr Alan Lim has had patients mention they are able to breathe better, with the appliance assisting in the development of the sinus. We are continuing to trial the DNA appliance in the treatment of TMD, snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea in adults.

We have found that by using this appliance follow-up orthodontic treatment is more stable.

Why is this appliance different to a maxillary expansion appliance?

Maxillary Expandsion Appliances move the teeth in an outward motion.                                                              The DNA appliance develops the palate and jaw bone which supports the teeth.

Orthodontic treatment is no longer restricted to teenagers as many adults too are discovering the many benefits of undertaking orthodontic therapy to attain a beautiful smile and improve their oral health or to correct problems that may extend back to their childhood. A smile can be changed at any age; it’s never too late to achieve a beautiful straight smile.

Orthodontic teeth braces of today are much finer and more comfortable than the bulky metal brackets and wires from years ago. At QV1 Dental many adults are seeing great success using Damon Orthodontic Appliances.

Conventional braces are tied in with elastics. This can cause friction and pressure, making treatment slower and less comfortable. Damon braces use a bracket with a slide mechanism, referred to as self-ligating, to hold the wire, which allows teeth to move more freely, quickly and comfortably and require fewer adjustment appointments.

When teeth are out of alignment, you may suffer many conditions that could have a significant effect on your oral and general health. Tooth misalignment has been attributed to facial, head, neck and shoulder pain in addition to increasing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease as teeth are header to clean effectively.

Invisalign® Teeth Braces

Orthodontics Perth

Many adults who desired a straight smile were reluctant to have orthodontic treatment due to the appearance and impact that metal brackets and wires would have on their social and professional life. Being able to achieve a beautiful smile without compromising on appearance is what has led to Invisalign® invisible orthodontic therapy becoming the orthodontic treatment of choice for adults.

Invisalign® is a series of clear custom moulded aligners made using advanced 3-D computer imaging software. This enables Dr Lim to demonstrate your entire procedure progression on a computer screen before your treatment commences. Each set of aligners is replaced every couple of weeks with each new set moving your teeth a little more until they have straightened to the final position.

Unlike fixed braces Invisalign® aligners are removable so you are able to eat all your favourite foods as well as brush and floss thoroughly. Additionally as the aligners are acrylic, they are virtually invisible unless people look very closely.

You will need to visit Dr Lim about once every 6-8 weeks so he can ensure your treatment is progressing as planned. The average treatment time using Invisalign® is 9 – 15 months, although this will depend on your personal situation. Following your assessment appointment, Dr Lim is able to provide a more accurate treatment timeframe.

Using Invisalign®, you can continue to enjoy life while achieving a straight smile, and without compromising on your appearance.

While Invisalign® is a popular option, clear aligners are not suitable for every situation, and therefore we will clearly explain alternative orthodontic solutions with you in order to achieve a long-term result.
