What Is Teeth Whitening?

Teeth whitening is a safe and effective procedure which lightens discoloration of tooth enamel. At QV1 Dental, we use the BriteSmile whitening system which combines a specially formulated hydrogen peroxide-based gel with an activation light.

What Causes Tooth Discoloration?

In addition to aging, some of our favourite foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, red wine and strongly dyed foods contribute to tooth stains. Some medications including antibiotics, excessive fluoride, nerve degeneration and old restorations plus tobacco products can leave your smile not looking as bright as it once was.

Who Can Benefit From Teeth Whitening?

Almost everyone; however there are some cases where treatment may not be effective. Our dentist can determine whether or not you are a viable candidate for the process or if another cosmetic procedure would better meet your expectations. Teeth whitening is ideal for patients who have healthy, unrestored teeth and would like to have a whiter and brighter smile.

Is Whitening With BriteSmile Safe?

Yes. BriteSmile will not soften tooth enamel or existing restorations. The product was proven safe in independent clinical studies by universities and researchers.

Will It Hurt?

Teeth whitening is completed while you relax in one of our treatment lounges. A small percentage of people may experience a dull ache following the procedure. Some patients may experience a “zinger”. “Zingers” can occur during or after the treatment and may last up to 24 hours.

Will BriteSmile Whiten Existing Crowns, Veneers Or Coloured Fillings?

BriteSmile may remove stains from crowns, veneers or coloured fillings, but the original restoration shade will not change. Replacements may be needed to match your new BriteSmile shade.

Can I Eat Anything After The Procedure?

The BriteSmile process removes stains that have adhered to the tooth surface over time. We recommend that you keep to a white and clear food diet for 24 hours after the procedure.

How Long Do The Results Last?

You should be happy with your BriteSmile for a couple of years. BriteSmile will whiten your teeth better and faster than any other process available, but it is up to you to maintain the results at home. No whitening treatment is permanent. Foods we consume (tobacco, tea, coffee, dark soft drinks) infrequent dental visits and genetics can work against the results. The BriteSmile custom-made kit that you will take home with you will help to maintain your whiter smile for longer.

How White Will My Teeth Become?

In our experience with patients with the darkest stains, the BriteSmile process has been able to achieve 9+ shades whiter on average using the Vita shade guide. Results will vary as everyone’s teeth respond a little differently, but in virtually all cases, the results are dramatic.

Does BriteSmile Whiten All Of The Teeth?

On most patients, BriteSmile can whiten the upper and lower front 8 - 10 teeth. These are the teeth most of us show when we smile (the smile teeth). Because the process uses light in conjunction with a whitening gel, we cannot whiten teeth any further back in the mouth. This is not a problem as the back teeth of most people cannot be seen or noticed when they smile.

What Is The Light?

BriteSmile uses a light emitting diode (L.E.D) lamp that is commonly used in the dental industry to generate the cool blue light. The cool blue light does not contain harsh or harmful UV light. The unique lamp head design allows the light to focus on the teeth, not the face, and it illuminates all the smile teeth simultaneously.

How Long Does The Treatment Take?

Approximately 2 hours in total. The treatment time can vary between 10 - 80 minutes depending on the darkness of the teeth.

Heres how BriteSmile Works

Teeth Whitening Perth 1. BriteSmile whitening gel is carefully applied to your teeth.
Teeth Whitening Perth 2. The gel is then activated by BriteSmile patented gentle bluelight for 20 minutes while you relax.
Teeth Whitening Perth 3. This process is repeated two – three more times before you go home with a naturally brilliant new smile.

While we are unable to offer guarantees that BriteSmile will be successful for every patient, we have enjoyed excellent results for the patients who have undergone this procedure.

Another teeth whitening method is our Take Home Kit. This kit involves wearing custom-made trays, which look similar to a sport mouthguard for around 1 hour per day for at least 7 days. The trays are filled with carbamide peroxide teeth whitening agent.

We deliver first class treatment to patients from the Perth CBD and other suburbs, including Northbridge, West Perth, Highgate, East Perth, Leederville, Subiaco, North Perth and Inglewood.
